I have been painting all my life, at least for as long as I can remember.
Can can remember scribbling away with paper and pencil (for me paper was
for drawing on and NOT DOING MATHS). My mother then got me a set of oil
paints and all that goes with it at the grand old age of 8 and from then
on I was hooked. I then painted in oils untill when working I was spending
lots of time in hotel rooms, as it was inpossible to take oils into hotels
I bought a set of watercolours to spend my time and never realy went back
to oils although now Wednesday morning I run an oils class.
I started the company Coupe Watercolours in the early part of 2003 after
teaching watercolours on a small scale for a couple of years. I felt there
was a market in watercolour tuition after talking to students who had
been attending colleges etc and got tired of waiting for assistance from
the tutor who had 19 other people to get around in a short space of time.
The first decision I made was to limit the number per class to seven
and put the emphasis on personal instruction and push the basics of painting
watercolours instead of the ' ok get on with a painting' attitude. I am
now happy to say that Coupe Watercolours now has a good student base of
all abilities and I believe that Watercolours are for everyone. Watercolour
courses should be fun to take part in, so now after a number a years teaching
my aim is for the students to enjoy painting in a relaxed atmosphere so
I built my own purpose built studio that the students can treat as their
very own.
More and more people are taking to painting in watercolours and now the
watercolour holidays take up much of our time. Even people that have never
painted in watercolours before will be given the basics and introduced
to the adventure of painting outside.
